Managing Bacterial Spot of Tomato: Do Chemical Controls Pay Off?

نویسندگان

چکیده

Bacterial spot of tomato (BST) is a disease that severely afflicts crops, especially in geographic areas such as the Southeastern U.S., where environmental conditions favor rapid development. Farmers usually use chemical treatments copper–mancozeb mixtures and acibenzolar-S-methyl, among other methods, to manage BST. However, these generally fail improve marketable yields, thus raising question whether BST are economical. We evaluated efficacy profitability bactericide consisting copper-mancozeb, streptomycin, well three inoculation levels Xanthomonas euvesicatoria pv. perforans, on management Florida. Across separate field trials, severity was inversely correlated with yields; however, provided no statistical improvement yields. By accounting for yield treatment costs, our analysis showed did not pay off economically; net returns were statistically equivalent untreated controls.

Advances in Structure Editors - Do They Really Pay Off?

Structure editors emphasise a high-fidelity representation of the underlying tree structure of a program, often using a clearly identifiable 1-to-1 mapping between syntax tree elements and on-screen artefacts. This paper presents layout and behaviour principles for structure editors and a new structure editor for Lisp. The evaluation of the editor‟s usability reveals an interesting mismatch. Wh...

Do Interruptions Pay off? Effects of Interruptive Ads on Consumers' Willingness to Pay

We present the results of a study designed to measure the impact of interruptive advertising on consumers' willingness to pay for products bearing the advertiser's brand. Subjects participating in a controlled experiment were exposed to ads that diverted their attention from a computer game they were testing. We measured subjects' willingness to pay for a good associated with the advertised bra...

Marker-assisted Selection for Combining Resistance to Bacterial Spot and Bacterial Speck in Tomato

The lack of resistance to bacterial diseases increases both the fi nancial cost and environmental impact of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) production while reducing yield and quality. Because several bacterial diseases can be present in the same fi eld, developing varieties with resistance to multiple diseases is a desirable goal. Bacterial spot (caused by four Xanthomonas Dowson specie...

Does opportunism pay off?

In Portugal, increases in investment expenditures and changes in the composition of spending favouring highly visible items are associated with higher vote percentages for incumbent mayors seeking re-election. The political payoff to opportunistic spending increased after democracy became well-established in the country. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Reclassification of the xanthomonads associated with bacterial spot disease of tomato and pepper.

Four phenotypic xanthomonad groups have been identified that are pathogenic to pepper, tomato, or both hosts. These include groups A and C which are found in Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. vesicatoria, group B found in X. vesicatoria, and group D found in 'X. gardneri'. We present DNA:DNA hybridization data in which X. axonopodis pv. vesicatoria group A and C strains have less than 70% DNA relatedn...
